Keep New Zealand Beautiful (KNZB) have launched Kiki Kiwi and Friends, as part of the “Litter Less” programme for students aged 5–11 years old. These litter centric educational resources are based on the adventures of Kiki the Kiwi and his endeavour to stop litterers! They’ve been developed to help 5–11 year olds understand and respond to litter and littering issues. They are aligned with the New Zealand Curriculum and are flexible enough to be taught as a complete unit of work or individual themes can be taught separately.
The resources are presented as 6 inquiry questions, which are separated into 3 interconnected themes and delivered over 12 lessons.
The programme can be accessed and downloaded digitally at www.litterless.knzb.org.nz/
The webite also includes online interactive activities for students to participate in.
Kiki Kiwi and Friends: Litter Less is an effective and robust environmental education model with the following key principles:
KNZB distributed resource packs to every primary and intermediate school in New Zealand in 2018. Additionally we would love to see schools continue to utilise this resource online as part of your environmental education for 2021!

If every teacher in NZ shared just one original resource or lesson plan, we'd have a bank of 50,000 FREE resources to use and share!
www.teacherslounge.co.nz is on a mission to save teachers time and money through gathering 50,000 free resources for NZ teachers to use. Think Twinkl, but crowd sourced and free.
Every day NZ teachers are creating awesome resources and planning that only see use in one classroom. Teachers' Lounge is the place for you to share resources with teachers all across NZ for free. Promoting truly collaborative teaching.
The Children’s Bookshop has long been a treasure trove of books and learning resources for children in Christchurch. It’s had a difficult time since the earthquakes but has recently changed owners and is looking to again, be a valuable asset to the city. Until suitable premises are found we are retailing online. We would love the opportunity to talk to schools and teachers about what books and resources would help develop imagination and learning. We look forward to being part of Christchurch’s school community.
